Have you seen the new September issue of CardMaker?
What about the headline at the top?? :)
Clay embellishments! I am very excited about that one because it's my article for this issue. :)
I have to admit, I love playing with clay. Am I creative with it? No, not really.
We have used polymer (oven bake) clay a lot in our house over the past few years so it was fun to learn even more about it. My kids are much more creative at it than I am.
For example:
Charms and figurines shaped like Nintendo characters
Mini Swords (Zelda fan there)
and even Ninjas with Candy Canes:
They do the fun stuff!!
Me? I make cards. ;)
I spent a lot of time researching on this one in hopes of covering all the basics and including pros and cons of each variety of clay. While I typically use polymer clay, I used a lot of air dry clay for this one. Here is a peek at the embellishments I made for one of my cards in this issue:
So what do you think? If you have read the article I'd love to know what you thought. Good or bad because I'm always open to ideas and suggestions for improvement ;)
Would you like to try some clay for yourself?
It is a lot of fun and a way to add unique handmade embellishments to handmade cards.
If you would like to try it for yourself have come to the right place.
With all of the experimenting I did for the article I ended up with a few extra supplies. ;)
So...
I am going to give away a set of the air dry clay that I used on this project at the end of the week.
To be entered in the random drawing simple leave a comment on this post and I'll draw a winner on Friday.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Back tomorrow with more. :)

Hmmm I have used Sculpey Polymer clay and baked it but never the air dry type, interesting! And I don't have that issue as yet, is it on newstands? I just started subscribing and there seems to be a glitch in their delivery *sigh* Beautiful flower you created! Great color!
I commented on Melanie's blog a little earlier that this issue intrigued me with the tips and techniques and I was hoping to buy this issue the next time I was out. I would love to try clay, but it didn't look easy to me. I may need to try it now because your flower adds an elegant touch to your card.
That looks like a ton of fun! I love new things!
This looks interesting. I've also played with 'oven-bake' clay before and love it.
Loved your article. It inspired me to work with clay. I have before, but not for embellishments
Oh, pick me pick me! I would love to try my hand at making these too! Looks so fun!
Huge Congrats on your Article. I would love to learn all about it. TFS
Those clay charms and little figurines are amazing! I must find this magazine so I can give this a try.
Congrats on your article, how exciting!! I've used sculpey clay before, but haven't in quite a few years. It was so fun to create with! Love your beautiful flower! :)
I looked at this set at Michaels when I was there last week. Would be great to win it and have a chance to try it out. Thanks as always for sharing.

Hi Tami
Waiting for the magazine to hit the shelves here in Ottawa but I love the idea of making my own clay/resin embellishments. Congrats on the article and I can't wait to read it.
Ter ;)
My kids used clay in school years ago but I have never given it a try. Air dry clay sounds great...would love to give it a try! Thanks for the opportunity to possibly do so. Vicki R
I've made air dry bellies before but these are much better. And my air dry clay dried out despite being well sealed (or so I thought) and double wrapped! So I let that go for now. But next time I have a 50% off coupon, this will be on my list. I don't have a copy but id love to read your article!
never tired this product or project before. I would to try it out
This looks fabulous. I would so love to try it. Thanks for the chance.
Hugs, Rosalee
What darling samples! Congrats on the feature article - can't wait to get my copy! I've never worked with clay - thank you for the chance to win!
I used to work w/ Sculpey & Fimo, but that was a long time ago. I like the idea of an air-dry clay.
Loved your projects in CardMaker, Tami - you always inspire me! I would never have thought to use clay on my cards - you are SO clever! Of course, I never knew there was an air-dry clay either! Thanks for the chance to win, and for all of the wonderful inspiration :)
Great cards - love your use of clay too!
HiTami,
I'm a new reader and subscriber to Cardmaker so I'm not too familiar with the magazine. But, I loved your card with the clay bow and flower. Am looking forward to reading the September issue and your article.
Virginia
That looks like a lot of fun! I need to start getting that mag again....
I've wanted to try this for a long time. Would be so great to win some supplies to start out. THANKS
Tami, the clay items on your project are amazing! My daughter (12) loves the polymer clay and has made several little items like the ones you pictured above. She loved seeing this also! She is going to make the little ninja with candy cane and characters in stockings! Thanks for the inspiration for her. Tell your kids SO CUTE from her. We havent used the air dry clay except for pots, but would love to try it for this type of decoration.
Would love to try out your clay if you havn't drawn a winner yet, please add me to your comments, I love your work!
Love to try this because of your projects and need to win to start.
TFS
I received my magazine but I have not read it yet. I guess I will do that today. Thank you
